Visual Arts Teacher – Part Time (.2 FTE, 2020-2021 Second Semester)

PVPA has an opportunity for a dynamic high school visual arts teacher beginning February 2021 for the 2020-2021 spring semester. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who enjoys working with students in grades 9-12 and collaborating with colleagues. The visual arts curriculum is focused on building a foundation of design and media skills that can lead to eventual integration with the performing arts. Students are assessed through a variety of methods using a standards-based grading system with the goal of supporting and challenging each student.


Responsibilities:
1. Teach two blocks (classes) that meet in the afternoon (specific days/times TBD) that include drawing or illustration and another visual arts class that draws on the strengths of the candidate
2. Prepare curricula and instructional materials based on set departmental learning objectives
3. Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via PowerSchool online grading system
4. Apply PVPA’s standards-based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement
5. Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners.
6. Attend and participate in regular faculty meetings and school-wide professional development activities
7. Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents/guardians as scheduled, including parent-teacher conferences
8. Participate in school-wide events that occur during the school day
9. Assist with other faculty administrative duties as required


Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree
2. CORI/SORI and Fingerprint background checks
3. Computer literacy


Preferred Qualifications:
1. Two or more years of experience teaching visual arts in a public or private school, preferably at the secondary level
2. Eligible for “Highly Qualified” teacher status
3. Ability to teach a variety of courses within the discipline
4. Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
5. Massachusetts teaching license in subject area
