Paraprofessional - Academic Support – Middle School

Teachers at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) provide students with a supportive and challenging environment that is responsive to multiple learning styles, emphasizes learning through the arts, and integrates critical and creative thinking throughout the curriculum. Since 1996, PVPA has prepared students for higher education by employing a rigorous, standards-based curriculum in a nurturing and collaborative environment.

PVPA has an opportunity for a dynamic paraprofessional beginning August 21, 2019 for the 2019-2020 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who enjoys working with students in grades 7-8 and collaborating with colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer direct support in Academic Support classes
  • Support students within a general education environment to ensure full implementation of Individual Education Plans
  • Maintain a structured and safe learning environment
  • Tailor support to students’ individual learning styles and needs
  • Support students to organize their work, providing them with appropriate resources and materials
  • Support students to become self-advocates and take responsibility for their academic performance
  • Provide assistance to classroom teachers
  • Collect information from teachers regarding students’ performance in the classroom and convey that information to students
  • Model appropriate and responsible behavior
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Evidence of successful prior experience working with students
  • Ability to relate to students in grades 7-12
  • CORI check/fingerprinting

Calendar: 10 month - School Year
